Marcellus Coolidge, born 1844, was the
artist who created the whimsical
"Poker Dogs", a series of oil
paintings made in the 1920's depicting a
group of dogs not only playing poker, but
engaged in other usually human activities.
It was the "Poker Dogs" who
achieved national recognition from the
30's through the 60's by appearing on
calendars and in various advertising
media. Now in the year 2000 they
have once again gained notoriety through
national TV sports advertisements.
